Avocado Indian Roti Recipe

Do you say roti or rotli?
It’s a matter of where you and your family originate from, but neither is wrong! I grew up calling this thin everyday flatbread rotli because my family originates from Gujarat, India. However, in most other parts of India the name for it is “Roti”. It is also the same word that is used throughout Indonesia, Africa, and the Caribbean. However you like to eat your Roti, there is one thing that we all love about it… the thin, soft, and delicious comfort it brings to our hearts.
How to make healthy roti
You can add many different things to your flour to make the roti healthy for you. This can include veggies, fibers, or even extra protein. The possibilities are endless. If you want to venture out into other options, then be sure to check out my zucchini roti recipe or carrot roti recipe . Both are perfect for kids and adults!
Can roti be given to babies?
Of course! It is a great finger food if you are practicing baby led weaning. My little ones loved eating roti and foods with texture. My tip when it comes to feeding babies roti is to dip the whole roti in water once it is cooked so it will soften the roti. Then you can tear it into small pieces and offer it to your baby. This particular Avocado Roti turns out to cook very soft which makes me believe it is the best option out there to give. Includes healthy fats from avocado and whole grains from wheat flour.
What are avocados in Hindi?
This is the same exact word used in Hindi, Avocado. When I travel to India and speak of avocado, not many natives know what I am referring to. However, Avocados are readily available in many parts of India but you just have to find the right place to go to.
Avocado in India
If you are traveling across India, it might be a bit hard to find avocados. Try going to specialty market that specializes in international fruits and veggies. They are readily available in many parts of India but usually at a higher cost.
Can Avocado be cooked?
Yes! I debated this one too many times before attempting to make this Avocado Roti recipe. The texture of whole wheat atta roti is soft and very tasty! I highly recommend it.
What are some Avocado Indian Recipes
I personally think this is the one that every household needs to try. It is a great everyday food that is packed with healthy fats, carbs, and fiber. Some other ways to use Avocado in Indian Recipes is to make a salad out of it using garlic, jeera, and other spices.
What type of whole wheat should I use?
Any whole grain whole wheat flour works well. I personally love to find an organic variation because that meets my family’s health needs. Try this brand or any other variation available at your local Indian Grocery Store.

- Add almond butter, hemp seeds, and pumpkin seeds for extra protein and fiber.
- Homemade date syrup or storebought is a great option for a sweetner in addition to honey.

In short, they are less processed. Basically, the oats are cut off of the plant, dried, and packaged. Rolled Oats go through an extra process of being flattened, and Instant Oats are additionally steamed and packaged thereafter. The processing (or lack thereof) involved with steel-cut oats is the reason they take much longer to cook.
Yes, you can! When you make them in an Instant Pot with a delayed timer it is possible.
This is a preference based on your likings. I love using almond milk for my Instant Pot Steel Cut Oats, but you can also use water.
The norm is to eat oatmeal for breakfast.

- Pour water into the Instant Pot just until it almost reaches the trivet. Be careful not to put more water than the trivet’s height.

HOW TO COOK WHILE YOU SLEEP (DELAYED TIMER)
- Set Instant Pot to 10 minutes and high pressure once the ingredients have been placed in the pot, then press the timer button and program according to how many hours from that moment you want it to start cooking. NOTE: If you want to eat (or take the oatmeal with you) at 7am you can start the cooking at 6am or even earlier since the oatmeal will remain warm. Cooling process takes about 15 minutes or more depending on quantity. SAFETY: Be sure to set the Instant Pot away from any other objects. Hence, there should be no cabinets above the Instant Pot where the released steam could potentially harm your kitchen with steam.
