Keto- Friendly Indian Chicken Seekh Kebabs !

Chicken kebabs in the oven can be cooked 365 days a year! I love cooking them in the oven for ease but you are welcome to try this recipe on a griddle or grill. This easy ground chicken recipe is mixed with herbs and Indian spices. A healthy and Indian keto- friendly and family favorite recipe when served as a wrap or on top of rice.

Healthy Oven Baked Chicken Kebabs

These are an all-time favorite of mine. I have made them for years and they just never get old. Instead, the recipe keeps getting perfected! They can be eaten as an appetizer or even a meal if wrapped in a warm tortilla/naan with some cilantro sauce! There is a cilantro overload in this dish (sorry my cilantro-hating friends). Personally, I think kebabs taste better when spicy. But if you don’t like spice then I recommend using very little garlic, ginger, and green chilies .

What ingredients are needed for Chicken Seekh Kebabs?

  1. ground chicken
  2. turmeric
  3. cilantro
  4. dried onions
  5. garlic
  6. ginger
  7. salt
  8. coriander powder
  9. green garlic (optional)
  10. egg (optional)

I bake these chicken kebabs in the oven for about 45-50 minutes at 375 degrees and they come out great. No need to flip them, just bake with the water in the tray under. The timing can vary based on the size of the kebabs. These are longer than my hand and about 2-3" in diameter.

Skewing is also optional. If using wooden skewers, then dip them in water for 30 minutes prior to using. Otherwise, I recommend metal skewers which can be bought at any grocery store, target, or even most dollar stores. They are more versatile and a long-term investment because they can be used for almost everything.

Some tips for chicken kebabs

  1. The measurements are for spicy kebabs. If you prefer less spicy foods, then use less ginger, garlic, and chili peppers.
  2. Add water to the bottom of a roasting pan, then place a baking rack over it assuring the two do not touch each other. Place the kebabs on top of the rack and cook. This helps keep the kebabs moist inside.

Chicken Kebabs Baked in the Oven

Ingredients1x2x3x

Chicken Kebabs

  • ▢ 1 lb ground chicken
  • ▢ 1 tablespoon fresh grated garlic
  • ▢ 1 tablespoon fresh grated ginger
  • ▢ 1 tablespoon fresh grated green chilis according to your spice tolerance (thai, serrano, jalapeno, etc)
  • ▢ ¼ cup fresh chopped cilantro
  • ▢ 2 tablespoon fresh chopped GREEN garlic (optional)
  • ▢ 5 tablespoon dried chopped onions (key ingredient and replacement for bread crumbs)
  • ▢ ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • ▢ 1 tablespoon oil (for kebab mixture)
  • ▢ 1 egg (optional)
  • ▢ fresh grated turmeric (optional)
  • ▢ salt
  • ▢ oil, for cooking

Instructions

  • OVEN BAKED CHICKEN KEBABS
  • If using, soak wooden skewers in water for about 30 minutes.
  • Mix all of the kebab ingredients together and set it aside while you heat the oven and gather the cooking pans.
  • Feel free to marinate for up to 2 days. I sometimes don’t do this and it turns out just fine as well.
  • Separate the mixture to make even quantity for each shape you will be making. You can make patties, meatballs, or original long shaped kebabs. Use the skewers if you choose to.
  • Heat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Put oil on your hands and form kebab shapes making sure each kebab is coated with a good amount of oil.
  • Place each kebab on an oven roasting pan and cook for about 30 minutes.
  • No flipping required, but the timing can vary depending on size of kebabs. It is best to cook until the center reaches 165 degrees.
  • Once cooked, remove from the oven and serve hot.
  • SERVING SUGGESTION: Serve as an appetizer with cilantro chutney or for dinner with hot roti, tortilla, naan, or rice. A onion salad and lemon wedge compliment this dish well.

Jalapeno Cilantro Sauce

Ingredients1x2x3x

  • ▢ 1 cup cilantro, stems and leaves (about 1 bunch of cilantro)
  • ▢ 1 cup sour cream (see above for substitutions)
  • ▢ 3 cloves fresh garlic (more or less)
  • ▢ 1 green chili pepper of choice (jalapeno, thai chili, serrano, etc)
  • ▢ salt
  • ▢ water (optional)

Instructions

  • Blend the cilantro, garlic, and green chili pepper into a fine paste.
  • Mix the blended contents with sour cream and some salt. If you prefer a more dressing like consistency, then add some water and mix well.
  • Chill in the refrigerator or enjoy immediately.

This spicy halibut with lemon is a recipe I make for my husband often and is also one of the first recipes I shared on my blog. “Wine Down Wednesdays” were a thing back before we had kids and I would love to create meals that paired well with a wine I would pick up from the grocery store.

Grab a clean piece of parchment paper and lay it on a counter.

Place the fish skin side down and then sprinkle with spices.

Prep the area by having your garlic butter and almond flour ready.

Spread the garlic butter on the halibut.

Sprinkle with almond flour.

Bake in the oven at 425 degrees for about 7-10 minutes and then high broil if you prefer a crisp top later.

Air fried halibut

I air fry halibut in my Breville Smart Oven air fryer . The fish comes out delicious! I cook halibut in an air fryer for about 12 minutes at 400 degrees. This helps get the butter and crust a bit crispy and the inside remains flaky. Give air fryer halibut a try!

Pair it with

I enjoy halibut with couscous and a vegetable like asparagus, Brussels sprouts , or green beans. Plus a generous squeeze of fresh lemon juice.

Top Tips

  1. Prevent over or under cooking- Halibut is a fish that can be ruined easily if it is under/overcooked or not seasoned well. For that reason, I recommend using the instructions and measurements listed.
  2. Where to buy halibut? Sustainable halibut can be purchased at local health food stores. Whole Foods sells halibut in the seafood department.

Almond Crusted Lemon Halibut

Ingredients1x2x3x

Halibut Fish

  • ▢ 2 filets halibut
  • ▢ 6 tablespoon almond flour mixed with salt and crushed red pepper
  • ▢ smoked paprika
  • ▢ salt
  • ▢ black pepper
  • ▢ oil

Lemon Butter

  • ▢ 3 tablespoon butter
  • ▢ 1 tablespoon garlic, fresh and grated
  • ▢ pinch lemon zest
  • ▢ 1 tablespoon parsley, fresh preferred
  • ▢ 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Sides

  • ▢ 2 servings couscous/rice
  • ▢ 2 servings roasted asparagus (cooked al dente)

Instructions

LEMON BUTTER

  • Blend or combine the lemon juice, lemon zest, butter, garlic, and parsley together. Add crushed red chili flakes for spice if preferred.
  • Set it aside to top the halibut later.

HALIBUT

  • Lay a clean parchment paper on top of a roasting pan.
  • Wash and dry the halibut filets and place them on the clean parchment paper.
  • Add salt, pepper, paprika, and oil to the skin side of the halibut. Flip over and do the same.
  • Generously slather the lemon butter mixture onto each filet (not the skin side)
  • Top the lemon butter with almond flour mixture and gently pat it down to allow the almond flour to stick to the butter.
  • There is no need to cover the halibut with a lid or foil paper. Bake in an open oven.

Oven Baked Halibut

  • Place the halibut filets into a 425 degree oven for 7 minutes. If you are not using parchment paper, then I recommend a roasting pan like THIS one.
  • Keep a careful look on the fish when switching to the next step
  • Change the oven temperature to BROIL and broil for about 3-5 minutes. You can add an additional 2 minutes if you want the top layer to be extra brown, but I don’t recommend cooking over this time frame.
  • Enjoy with couscous, rice, and roasted asparagus for a complete meal

Air Fried Halibut

  • Place the halibut into the air fryer that is heated to 400 degrees for about 12 minnutes (no parchment paper needed).
  • Remove from the air fryer and let it rest for 2 minutes before serving with couscous, rice, and roasted vegetables.
